Maintenance Tips

Pumps Maintenance tips

  • For Diaphragm pumps, it is recommended that new Diaphragms are installed every 6 months or 500 hours of use. Over time chemicals and usage wear down the diaphragms and can cause pumped liquid to wash into pump causing heavy damage.

  • Oil changes should be a part of your regular service schedule for your pumps. We recommend an oil change along with diaphragm changes. For most pumps you will want to use non-detergent, SAE 30 weight oil.

  • Flush pump with clean water after use to reduce chemical wear and reduce changes of clogging.

  • During cold weather to protect your pump flush it with a 50/50 mixture of water and antifreeze.

  • Check your filter daily. A dirty filter can cause a number of malfunctions, stopping flow of liquid or allowing debris to damage your pump.

Gas Engine Maintenance Tips

  • Check engine oil level with each use. We recommend changing engine oil every 6 months or 100 hours of use. If the oil level is low, milky almost like chocolate milk, or extremely murky do not run engine as it may damage your engine. For general use SAE 10W-30 oil is recommended.

  • Make sure to cover your engine during rains to prevent water from getting into the engine and/or fuel tank.

  • Check and clean your air filter regularly. A dirty air filter may stop air flow or allow dirt into the engine causing damage. We recommend cleaning at least every 3 months.

  • Service your engine more frequently when used in dusty areas.

  • It is important to have clean and correct fuel for your engine. Review your owner’s manual to confirm what fuel is best for your engine. When filling engine do not fuel completely, to prevent fuel from overfilling and flooding engine. If bad fuel is in engine, do not run until cleaned and new fuel added.

  • Check on spark plug every 6 months. It is recommended to replace your spark plug every year or if the spark plug becomes covered in soot or excessively dirty.

  • Fuel Tank and Filter should be cleaned every 6 months.

  • Do not place engine on sides, always keep engine level when transporting and using. Move the fuel valve lever to the OFF position when transporting.

  • If storing engine for a period of time it is recommended; to clean the engine, drain the fuel tank and carburetor to prevent damage from gasoline deterioration or add gasoline stabilizer to extend your fuels storage life; cover engine to keep out dust after engine has cooled; if engine is equipped with a battery try to charge once a month to extend life of battery; and store in a dry, level and well ventilated area.

Hose Maintenance Tips

  • Be careful not to let your hose touch the exhaust of the engine or other hot parts as this can melt your hose.

  • Do not kink your hose as this can cause damage to your hose and reduce the flow.

Common Issues

No Pressure From Pump

  • Check Seals; a wore down, ill-fitted or incorrectly installed O-Ring or Gasket can reduce or stop pressure from pump.

  • Check Filter; a dirty or cracked filter can cause a number of issues including stopping pressure from pump.

Engine Not Starting

  • Fuses - see if any are damaged

  • Spark plug - see if it damaged or excessively dirty

  • Battery - check if discharged or damaged

  • Fuel - Look out for bad fuel or an empty tank

Oil Is Leaking Or Is Milky In Color

  • Do not run.

  • For diaphragm pumps; this may mean that one or more diaphragms have split. Remove the manifold and heads. Drain the oil and clean the crankcase of water. Replace the diaphragms, heads and manifold and add new oil.

  • For Engines; take a trusted mechanic.

Engine Lacks Power

  • Check Filters and Fuel. A clogged or damaged air or fuel filter needs to be replaced or cleaned. Make sure that the fuel is good inside the engine, bad fuel will slow down and damage your engine.
